Let’s be honest for a second. If there were a magical “opt out of social media” button, I’d be the first one sprinting to press it. I don’t naturally love editing reels or scrolling TikTok trends. But here’s the truth:
Social media isn’t optional anymore. It’s a necessity.
If you want to be an artist today, it’s literally part of the job description.
Why Social Media Matters
Back in the day, labels would find raw talent, sign you, and build your brand from the ground up. Not anymore. Now, they’re looking for artists who already have a brand, an audience, and the ability to connect with people.
And if you want to stay independent? Same deal. Social media is what grows your fanbase, creates opportunities, builds collaborations, and eventually—even pays the bills.
Like it or not, this is the game. So let’s talk about how to win it.
How Often Should You Post?
Short answer: as often as you can.
When I started, I posted once a day. Every single day. At first, it was exhausting, but over time, it became a habit. Then I upped it to twice a day—and that’s when I really saw results.
You don’t have to start there. If three times a week feels doable, start there. But don’t stay there forever. Push yourself. Algorithms reward consistency, and the more you post, the easier content ideas will come.
Pro tip: Batch record. I film 5–6 reels in one sitting and schedule them out. It keeps me consistent, even when life gets chaotic.
What Should You Post? The 3 P’s
I use a simple system: Personality, Popular, and Professional.
- Personality: The real you. Behind-the-scenes clips, everyday life, your quirks, your humor, your faith, your dog—anything that makes people feel connected. People don’t fall in love with music first; they fall in love with the person making it.
- Popular: Trends, memes, TikTok voiceovers, dances—whatever’s circulating right now. Yes, it can feel silly, but trends give you reach. Put your own twist on them to make them yours.
- Professional: Polished performance videos, singing clips, or high-quality content. Important, but not the majority—sprinkle it in between Personality and Popular.
Hacks That Are Working Right Now
- Instagram Editing Tools: IG is rewarding content edited inside its app (trimming, captions, effects). Take advantage while it lasts.
- Meta Verified: Paying for verification adds credibility, boosts your algorithm standing, and makes you stand out.
- TikTok Livestreaming: Once you hit 1,000 followers, go live. Aim for 6 hours per week. It builds real fan connections and, yes, some artists I know make $5k/month just from livestreaming.
Be Your Own Analyst
Don’t just post and ghost. Study your content. What’s getting views? Comments? Shares? Why? Social media is one big experiment: test, measure, adjust.
And here’s a big one—be polarizing. Don’t try to please everyone. Lean into what makes you unique. Authenticity attracts your people, and those are the fans who stick.
Proof It Works
When I only posted music-related content once a day, my growth was slow. Then I doubled down—posting twice a day, leaning into the 3 P’s, going live, getting Meta Verified.
The result? My Instagram profile views shot up from 10,000 to 93,500 in 30 days. My followers doubled. Engagement skyrocketed. TikTok blew up the same way.
Now, I can’t even open the app without dozens of new notifications.
The Takeaway
Social media is work. It takes consistency, creativity, and strategy. But if you commit, it will grow your career.
Remember: In the social media game, consistency beats talent. Be bold. Be consistent. Be you.
And Keep Dreaming Big!
God Bless,
